What is Bowen, and how does it work?

The Bowen Technique is a very gentle form of bodywork that originated in Australia, developed in the 1950’s and 1960’s by the late Tom Bowen

IMG_0893copyIn a Bowen session light moves are applied to specific places on the body either on the skin or through thin clothing. Moves are made on skin, over muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. The moves penetrate to a deep cellular level, incorporating the body’s unique ability to heal itself. With the release of tension and toxins the moves begin to accomplish a balance of energy almost immediately. Bowen starts a shift of energy and can typically take up to three days to re-balance the body. Since Bowen addresses the body as a whole unit rather than just the presenting symptoms, it embraces the physical, chemical, emotional and mental aspects of each person receiving Bowen.

The effect of Bowen on fascia is significant and recent studies concerning fascia may help to explain why the technique is effective. More research is being conducted and it is an area that is covered in many of the Bowtech CPD courses.
